On Thursday, February 20, the Provincial government, Municipal District of Greenview and County of Grande Prairie announced a tri-partnership to expedite the twinning of 19 KM of Highway 40 located south of Grande Prairie to Norbord Wood Panel Plant. Construction will begin in spring 2020 with a targeted completion date by the end of 2022.
On behalf of our members, I want to thank Transportation Minister Ric McIver, Finance Minister Travis Toews, the Municipal District of Greenview and the County of Grande Prairie for their ongoing commitment to safety on Highway 40 and finding a way to move this project forward. A special thank you to Tracy Allard, MLA, Grande Prairie; Dale Smith, Reeve, Municipal District of Greenview and Leanne Beaupre, Reeve, County of Grande Prairie for their relentless work bringing stakeholders together, which ultimately led to this innovative cost-sharing partnership.
We also want to thank Todd Loewen, MLA for Central Peace-Notley, and Wayne Drysdale, past MLA Grande Prairie-Wapiti for their many years of service and strong advocacy for this project.
This is great news for the members of the Coalition for Safer Alberta Roads and all users on Highway 40. When stakeholders come together to collaborate on projects that improve road safety for everyone, we see innovative cost sharing projects like this one. I have a deep respect for the people involved in bringing the stakeholders together to find a solution.
