Although the doors of Grande Prairie Public Library are closed to the public, the staff are still working hard to provide service to its members.

The outdoor book drop is also closed so please do not try to return any items until further notice. There will be no overdue fees on items due after March 17 and due dates have been extended to May 15.

You can still register for library membership by applying online through our webpage, gppl.ca. Under the Using the Library tab, scroll to Membership. When you register online, you will have limited access to resources but this can be rectified by giving us a call at 780-532-3580. If you have a membership that expired after March 15, it was auto-renewed to May 15.

Are you wondering why you would want a library membership when you can’t get in the door? You need it to use the digital content and resources we have to offer. You can download e-books and audio books, learn a language, take a course, learn technology or get homework help. You can also research with our many databases. There are also links to online resources/programs etc. on our website

Because of limited access to books and other materials, GPPL is reallocating money from various budgets to purchase more digital books and e-resources. Be sure to click “Available Now” in Libby/ Overdrive when searching for titles if you don’t want to wait for your item to become available.

Curbside pickup is also available to GPPL members. Simply place your holds online and, when the items have been gathered, a staff member will call to arrange a pick-up time. This service is available Monday to Friday with pick up times between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will continue as long as staff are allowed to work in the library.

Our staff have put together some fun activities to do online. You can paint with Jacob or do the teen Instagram scavenger hunt and watch for the Nancy Drew escape room coming soon.

GPPL staff are available online (gppl.ca) through social media and chat and by phone from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday. If you have questions, please call GPPL at 780-532-3580.

As things can change quickly, watch our website, gppl.ca, and social media for the latest library news as well as upcoming on-line activities and services.

Judy Garlinski is the children’s processing co-ordinator at the Grande Prairie Public Library.
