FMCSD column: Engagement sessions beginning for EEP, Kindergarten

Did you know that a child born this year will most likely be part of the high school graduating class of 2039? Now that we all feel old, it’s time to think about Early Entry Program (EEP) and Kindergarten registration for the 2021/2022 school year!
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Early Learning Consultant Janice Molloy says this is a traditional time of year for parents to start seeking out information about the next school year.

“We find that once the new calendar year begins, parents really start planning for the next school year,” she said. “Especially if their child will be attending school for the first time.”
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will be sharing a Question and Answer session on social media and our websites on March 3 at 7 p.m.
We know that choosing a school is different in this COVID-19 environment, and we endeavour to walk through these times together. More opportunities for engagement with your school will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

“EEP is an enriched program that focuses on learning through play,” continues Molloy. “By learning through play, children are given the opportunity to develop social skills, mature emotionally, build cognitive skills and gain self confidence.
“We are happy to offer the Early Entry Program at all 10 elementary schools. In addition, it is also offered in French at Ecole St Paul.
“There is a true wrap around of services available in our Early Entry Programs adds Molloy, “There are many services available to our students to develop speech and language, fine motor skills and gross motor development, as examples.
“All programs are led by a fully qualified teacher, have access to registered speech – language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and several other supports to address the unique learning needs of all children.”
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will always acknowledge the trust involved in sending your child to school each day.
“We recognize that for some children this will be their first opportunity to be in a school environment. And for many parents, this will be their first time sending their child to school,” Molloy continues.
“To ease the transition, we have created short videos that parents and children can watch together and access on our website. They are specific to each of our 10 elementary schools. The pictures will give children a brief tour of what their school will look like.”
For the 2021/2022 school year children who were born in 2017 will be eligible for the Early Entry Program. Children born in 2016 will be eligible for Kindergarten.
