Grande Prairie restaurant owners suffering from the recent COVID-19 closures have been offered a prescription to relieve some of that pain.
London Drugs is expanding its Local Central program to local restauranteurs to sell house-branded goods prepackaged for consumers.
“The collateral damage to small businesses created by the pandemic has been devastating and, the restaurant industry — particularly those small and locally-owned — have sustained one of the heaviest blows,” explained Clint Mahlman, President and Chief Operating Officer of London Drugs. “As a company, we want to offer any support we can to restaurateurs and businesses in our communities right now, and we know our customers do too.”
Restaurants with products that can be sold via a retail setting like jams and jellies, spices sauces, salsas, rubs, etcetera can apply with the western Canadian retailer to be considered to have their offerings stocked in London Drugs.
There are some restrictions on the products.
Local restaurant owners can find a complete list of restrictions on the Local Central Restaurant Application page.
Some of the conditions include: items must be packaged and may require a bilingual label, the ability to deliver and replenish stores, restaurant-branded clothing, and novelty items are accepted. The restaurant must have a valid business licence.
The opportunity for local restauranteurs comes approximately a year after London Drugs launched its Local Central program last April, which has supported 100 local businesses across the Prairie provinces and B.C.
“The last year has pushed local businesses – including London Drugs – to become incredibly nimble. One of the most public ways this has played out has been in the quick response of local restaurants and businesses to sudden closures and evolving distancing measures. With the Local Central program already in place, we are in a unique position to offer support quickly,” explains Mahlman.
London Drugs has committed to reviewing submissions immediately, and if successful local restaurants could see their products on the shelves in a week.
Any Grande Prairie and area restaurants that have qualifying products can apply online (https://www.londondrugs.com/local-central-application.html).
