Mayor Don Scott said the resignation of Tracy Allard as municipal affairs minister will not impact discussions about local issues with the province.
However, he is disappointed Tany Yao, UCP MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, was one of several government MLAs and officials that travelled internationally during the holiday break. For months, the province has asked Albertans to avoid international travel unless it was necessary.
Allard resigned from her cabinet spot earlier this month after travelling to Hawaii over Christmas. Yao travelled to Mexico and made himself unreachable. Premier Jason Kenney kicked him off committees.
“I think I’m exactly like other Albertans. I’m disappointed of course,” said Scott.
“I stayed here over Christmas and I’m very focused on supporting local businesses and the local economy,” he said. “That’s one message I’ve tried to get out over and over again, because our local businesses are really struggling.”
