Give me light
About DST. I am a school bus driver. I don’t want to be thrust back into darkness after waiting months for a return to early morning light. I doubt the parents and students want that either. And I and many others are backyard astronomy types who would welcome one more hour of darker skies in the summer. I golf and really don’t care about the extra light in the evening. Twilight golf is problematic. Please end DST.
Dump the royals
With the recent interview of Meghan and Harry on TV and our issues with respect to our Governor General resigning amid controversy, maybe it is time for Canadians to rethink our association with the monarchy and the Commonwealth. Is it time for us to part ways? Other than costing our country a great deal of money, what important role do either of these serve in our Canadian society and country? Being British by birth (Canadian by choice), I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the monarchy until recently. I really don’t believe it is relevant any more as it has not progressed with the times and is far too steeped in old and irrelevant traditions. I honestly believe that the monarchy is being run by a group of non-royals and the Queen has very little, if any, say in what actually happens.
Woke upper lip
In this day and age of the “woke” movement, we are apologizing, and removing any reminder of our past that is deemed controversial. We are removing John A Macdonald statues, name from buildings, and image from the $10 bill due to his association with the residential schools. Is the monarchy not the epitome of our colonial past? Is not recognizing royals as “special” by their blood lineage similar to racism? This same royal family whose lineage that presided over colonial subjugation throughout the world? We are told that symbolism matters, so it is time to end the constitutional monarchy in Canada. Why have a foreign Queen as our head of state?
