The now completed Christmas Kettle Campaign raised $761, 566.20 for the Salvation Army of Grande Prairie.
The original goal was $500,000, Salvation Army Captain Peter Kim amazed with the continued generosity of people in Grande Prairie and the surrounding Peace County.
“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of Grande Prairie and the surrounding area in the Peace Country,” Salvation Army Captain Peter Kim said. “People are really generous but they also know when the going gets tough, with people in need, they are willing to step up and help out those who are in need. Even during a pandemic people realize the need is there and so they give.”
With four days left until Christmas, the kettle campaign checked in at $434,028. 86, but a flurry of late activity pushed the number higher than the captain expected.
“(The additional money raised) had a lot to do with corporate donations,” Kim said. “There were several businesses that donated in the $10,000 range, from oil companies and logging companies. We saw those larger donations come through corporate donations. We also saw a great deal of increase in our online donations this year than ever before.”
